CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WSOCTV.com).- A firefighter was hurt early Wednesday morning while trying to save a home from a massive plume of flames. Channel 9 is making calls to learn the firefighter’s condition.

The fire started just before 1 a.m. on Keswick Avenue in north Charlotte. The flames engulfed the back of the house.

A family of six lived in the home. Everyone made it out safely except for one dog. The Red Cross is helping them with a temporary place to stay.

The fire burned some landscaping and several trees near other houses, but firefighters prevented the other homes from catching fire.

Investigators are working to find the cause.
