Boy, 17, Found Dead After Fire
Publicado - Published: 03/02/2010

SEATTLE (KOMO Staff).- Seattle fire investigators were back Tuesday morning at a burned South Seattle home where a teenager was found dead.

The family identified the 17-year-old victim as Patrick Seourn.

When firefighters arrived at the house in the 500 block of South Trenton Street late Monday, flames had already engulfed the garage and were spreading up the side of the building.

Six people who were inside made it out safely, but firefighters found the body in the ashes of the garage.

Jackie Schwendeman lives across the street and was walking her dog when she saw smoke about 8:20 p.m. She ran up to the home to alert the family inside that their house was on fire.

"I had to let them know that the house was on fire and to get out, and get out now," Schwendeman said.

By the time she got to the front door, thick smoke and flames were everywhere. She started yelling and helping the family get outside.

"When I was carrying the grandfather out, it started exploding in the garage and the windows started popping out," she said.

Schwendeman said the father ran up to her yelling "Where is my son? I can't find my son!"

The side of the home was burned to the frame, and more than 50 firefighters worked quickly to keep the fire from spreading to the rest of the house.

"We got everybody out, except for one," Schwendeman said. "I'm just part of the community. When you see something going on like that, you have to help. I'm no hero."

William Rowley lives in the neighborhood and said he knew the victim when he was growing up.

"He was a good kid and he was surrounded by people that loved him," Rowley said. "It's just tragic that this happened. It's a sad day for a lot of people."

Investigators were expected to be on scene most of the day trying to determine how the fire started.
